About
Annabel Gutherz is a singer-songwriter hailing from Montreal, Canada.
Growing up in a family that encouraged exploring the arts, Annabel has always been in tune with her creative spirit. As a teen, she began composing original music and lyrics as a vehicle to work through the growing pains of adolescence. Now, at the age of 23, Annabel has come into her own as an exciting young artist on the rise.
Annabel ended last year with the release of her debut album, Loose Ends, a stylistically eclectic yet entirely authentic record that cathartically encapsulates life’s unfinished moments: “Many times in my life, I was unable to get closure. Instead, I was left to bear the weight of the words I never said and the inescapable memories that tethered me to my past, suspending time. Understanding my need to let go of these ‘loose ends,’ I turned to song,” she says. The album was co-produced by Dominique Messier, a long time band member for Céline Dion and owner of Studio Piccolo in Montreal, Quebec.
Annabel is a compelling storyteller; her lyrics are diaristic and perspective, instantly drawing you into her world. Combined with her honeyed melodies, distinct vocals and keen musical ear, Annabel’s songs take listeners on a heartfelt journey packed with raw honesty and emotional conviction. With over 60K monthly Spotify listeners and praise from tastemakers like PopWrapped, CelebMix and Stage Right Secrets, it’s clear that Annabel is an artist with an exceedingly bright future.
Fiercely committed to her craft, Annabel graduated from Berklee College of Music Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Music Studies and is now completing her Master’s of Arts degree in Songwriting at Berklee as well.
On top of her musical endeavors and ongoing academic career, Annabel is also a passionate philanthropist. Her first single, “Legends,” was released with the goal to raise funding for education-based charities in North America. She also runs the company Annie Pajammies, which sells children’s picture books and a corresponding line of pajamas. A portion of the proceeds from every unit sold is donated to help facilitate education across the globe.
Annabel is now preparing to release a plethora of new music, starting with her new single, “Retrograde,” out on March 18th. In contrast to the softer ballads that featured prominently on her album, Annabel is exploring a more maximalist pop-rock sound filled with driving drums, anthemic production and deliciously infectious pop hooks. “My new music pulls from a contemporary pop-rock sonic palette that blends live and synthesized instruments, and embodies a much more theatrical sound,” she says. “I’ve learned a wealth of invaluable knowledge from my studies at Berklee, and I’ve been stepping into my artistry as a result. I’m especially excited to share my stories through a galactic concept in my new music.”
